My final wall is almost done. I actually thought it was done, packed up all my supplies and then noticed I forgot to paint in the upper body of the horse that should be above the top rail, just to the right of my blue tape. At that point, I was just too tired to unpack what I needed and fill this in. I’ll do it today. This was a fun scene to paint. I made some overheads from a coloring book and projected the animals onto the wall, which was covered with brown kraft paper. I traced the images onto the paper and cut the shapes out right on the wall and painted. There is a great book by Linda
Buckingham and Leslie Bird entitled Projection Stenciling, that goes into detail about using an overhead to make stencils. This book also includes several patterns and projects.
Here’s a close up of the area I will paint in today. I started the horse in the corner, so I would not have to paint the entire horse. The fence also helps to hide parts of the pigs and the cow, saving me some time. Remember, we are on a very tight budget here!

This is the office/reception area. I added the Scrollallover stencil pattern from Royal Design Studio to most of the white circles. There are 4 plain white circles left, which I will stencil with the words: live, love, laugh, learn. I have done these circles w/these words in all the Centers reception areas. This is the first time I added a pattern to the circles. Margaret, who will be using this space, was very happy when I showed her her space this morning. 🙂 I think she will be setting up her office today as soon as I finish the lettering.
And last, but not least… the damn paint on the carpet! Remember my little accident?
It’s not going away. The carpet cleaner that showed up yesterday, turned out to be the husband of one of the day care providers. He arrived with a rug cleaner, but no skill to use it or stain remover. I told him I would go out and get some stain remover and be right back. When I returned, he had already experimented with several things he found lying around, and really made things worse. To top it all off, he tells me he has to leave and takes the rug cleaner with him!
I was able to make some progess, using Krud Kutter, a stiff brush, and some white rags. I will try again today, maybe rent a carpet cleaner or just give up and call in someone to fix it! grrrrr
A few years ago a painter dropped hunter green paint on a creamy carpet. We saw that he used a spray can product called Spot Shot that he bought at Home Depot. (www.spotshot.com) Came out like a dream, Carol, no kidding. We now carry it in our van — it’s helped us out, too!
