Commercial Clients

Today I received the news that a commercial job I was to start on 3/12 is yet again delayed, for probably another 4 weeks. Apparently none of the prep work has begun. I thought this year I would try to add more commercial work to my client list in hopes of being able to do some fun, creative, large projects. That, or course, would be the plus side of doing commercial work. The down side is the continued delays and the multitude of endless meetings that must take place within the management company that has hired my services. I am excited about this project and should it ever get underway, I will be posting, what I hope to be, some awesome photos of the job. The job is at an apartment complex and the building I will be working in is being totally rehabbed. I will be doing the two story foyer, a large lounge, and a WiFi library. The foyer will have horizontal stripes done in several shades of Shimmered Suede. If you are not familiar with Shimmered Suede, you can learn about it at the manufacturer’s website, http://www.bluepearlpaint.com/suede/ The product is a bit pricey, running about $80/gallon. If you have ever worked with Aqua’s Lusterstone, it is similar to this product. The difference is, you trowel on the first coat vs. rolling… 100% coverage. The second coat also gets troweled on, but almost all of the product is removed w/the trowel with this second layer. Shimmered Suede does not seem to scratch easily like Lusterstone and I like the more vibrant colors offered with this line.

In the lounge, which measures 28′ x 30′, with a 12′ high ceiling, I will be doing a large basket weave pattern on the walls. I will do this by alternating stripes on 48" panels, horizontally and vertically. I will be picking up my sample boards from this job on Friday, so will post some pics then. One section of a wall in this room will be done with a rough stone finish, using Aquastone and a couple glazes.

The WiFi library… I am currently struggling with the sample. I think I may have mis-marked the back of the sample board the client selected because when I recreated it in a larger version, the tone is way off. I am going to try a new base color since I feel the glazes are correct.

Hopefully all of the fun and excitement I initially felt about this job will not be totally suck out by the continued delays and endless meetings!
