Today I was able to finish the tree and the miscellaneous leaves that are in this Women’s Retreat Room. It’s a long, narrow room, so I was not able to photograph it in it’s entirety in one shot.
The room has sloped ceilings with dormers at both ends. Again, still very much under construction, so lots of boxes in the way and floor will be carpeted, no furniture in here yet, etc.
The concept here is very abstract. The tree trunk and branches have been painted with a metallic silver paint, but the leaves are done with a silver foil.
Here is a close up of one of the leaves. The silver foil was used to create the effect of a broken piece of glass mirror. Flowers were then hand painted on each leaf.
Here is what the foil application looks like in progress. First the "leaves" are painted with a silver metallic paint because the transfer process is not a 100% coverage. Next, the leaves get a coat of sizing. The foil is then placed, shiny side up, on top of the sized leaf and burnished.
This is what the foil looks like after a transfer is done.
Some areas of the room have this type of branch, while others have the broken mirror leaves.
Oh, btw, this toilet belongs in another bathroom on a different floor. It’s just living here for the moment. I may add a strand of pearls above the toilet tank now, but I am going to hold on that, because I’m not sure that is the answer for that space. I hope to bring Marc in on this job, as I feel some direction and creative input is needed. Stay tuned.
