The gate is history. The homeowners decided not to put another rug in this Family Room since the dog ruins all rugs. Now the dog is allowed in here, so no need for the gate. The "cracks" are painted on... part of the original wall finish I did a few yrs. ago. I'll extend some of the "cracks" when I blend in the painted out area where the column is now. You are too kind about my computer skills, or lack thereof. ;-)

Will you have to replace the gate, or has it outlived its purpose?
Are there cracks in the plaster to the left of the column, notably at the thermostat? Will you need to repair those, or is that room "out of scope" presently?
To some extent you are at the mercy of browser font and style sheet handling in getting the text flow you want. Browsers may substitute fonts, and may handle the layout, uh, "creatively" - what you see in Firefox on a Mac may differ from Internet Explorer on Windows. So don't lose too much sleep over it :-)
