This week, I returned briefly, to one of my most favorite clients/homes, The Beacon Hill Client. Stacy joined me, working on the fireplace surround in this guest room, as I worked on the stenciling.
The room started out with this lovely shade of green. Even when the headboard arrives, this room would have still needed that little something extra to bring out the homeowners’ personal style.
This is the first layer for both the fireplace surround and the walls. The stencil technique is called a “drop shadow” method. This is an one overlay designs, “Orient Express” and to achieve the look I want, the first layer is done in black. Stacy has base coated the formerly white fireplace surround with this deep purple color.
Here is a close up of the finished stencil design and the fireplace surround. To achieve this drop shadow look, the stencil is placed over the first layer, but moved about 1/8″ up and to the right. This 2nd layer was done with a brass metallic paint. The fireplace finish is comprised of multiple layers of metallic golds, purple and a little green acrylic paint.
The stencil design was done as a repeat pattern. The beautiful armoire was the inspiration piece for the stencil design.
When you walk past this room now, it just invites you to peek in. Any guest would feel right at home in this room!
