I’ve been able to spend a little more time, here and there in my studio, creating some new sample boards. Tired of the same old finishes, I want some new and exciting finishes to show my clients and to keep me energized.
I was happy to find sample sizes of Adicolor’s Desire and Luxury products being sold by Jackie Baxter at Lasting Impressions. They are most helpful there and readily answer any questions you have about the product lines they carry.
For my first sample of Desire’, I tinted the base coat (Fondo), slightly with the same tint I used in the 2nd layer, the Desire’ glaze. This system is so easy and fun to use! It’s definitely a “Wow” finish with very little effort! I will tell you, the brochure Adicolor has put out to show all the colors offered in this line does not do this product any justice at all. It would be a very hard sell to a client to show them this color chart. Luckily, I had experimented briefly at the Faux Event last Summer in Atlantic City, with Desire’, so saw first hand, how stunning the sample boards looked. I sealed this first board with a great sparkly sealer called Bronze Sealer with Sparkle. It has fine pieces of gold glitter in it, so gives the sample a little sparkle, in a subtle, not in your face, way!
Next, I tried Desire’ Luxury in Gold. I used a little tint in the Fondo base coat. Both Desire’ and Luxury work the same. Fondo is the base, which can be used untinted or tinted. Once dry, Desire’ or Luxury is applied with a chip brush, using an “x” pattern, feathering out into each section as you go. The instructions are in their brochure as well as here on the Adicolor website. As you apply the product, you will see it looks like lumpy cottage cheese all over your sample board. You let this step set up for 5-15 minutes, then the fun part….knocking it down, gently with a thin, very flexible plastic spatula (also available on Jackie’s website). The cottage cheese lumps open, spilling out either white (Desire’) or gold (Luxury Gold) bursts of color! Obviously, the more you play with it, the more blended the look, so you have some control options here. The end result is a slightly textured surface. Now, I did stop here, but then the next day in my studio, I found this little jar of silver Beadz. I had not worked with this product before, so decided to give it a try on top of this Luxury sample board.
This very elegant look would be wonderful in a Powder Room, on some furniture or as an accent wall. I have ordered more Beadz in other colors for further experimentation.
