A little splash of color

Recently I decided I wanted a more minimalist look in my dining room, with just splashes of color. God knows I’ve had this room many, many colors in the past. I kept the glazed texture on the bottom walls below the chair rail, but opted for your basic Linen White this time on the walls above the chair rail and the ceiling. I knew I wanted to hang my chalkboard, which has a Linen White frame, back up on the wall, so I decided to offset this with a panel of Shimmered Suede in Palamino.

Here’s the wall "before"… just Linen White.

The panel starts at the chair rail and goes right up to the ceiling molding. This helps to give the room a little extra height, visually. I love having this chalkboard in the dining room. I can change it to greet dinner guests, reflect the season or a particular holiday, etc. I made the chalkboard myself using a piece of masonite, painted with black chalkboard paint. I then bought the molding and just glued it right on the chalkboard. A very quick project. I like instant gratification!

I also decided the backsplash to my built-in china hutch needed a little jazzing up. I added some metallic lime green polka dots. The counter of the hutch has a faux leather panel done with a glazed plaster and sealed.

Dots

This was just a happy accident! See how the dots look like olives in the martini glasses from this view!
