Tween Girl’s Room

I love this "Tween Age" for girls. They always know exactly what they want for their room and have no problem telling me when I don’t have it exactly right! They stay actively involved with the process, and are a lot of fun to work with. I borrowed this stencil from Susan, and don’t remember who the designer is, so will have to ask her and insert that link later. The inspiration was two rugs in the room that have this circle pattern. Of course, I completely forgot to take a picture of these rugs and they were rolled up and put away when I arrived to paint. I will be back at this house in a few weeks to work in another room, so I will take a few more photos of the room put together.

Wallpaper

The entire room used to have this ballerina wallpaper border with more wallpaper below. The paper was removed and all walls painted this tan color. My little client kept the paper on the walls in one small alcove of the room. A little homage to her younger self.

To bring in the pink from the wallpaper wall, I painted a 20" wide, solid pink stripe, horizontally around the room. Then I began the circle design.

I also put a soft glaze over the tan paint because the homeowners felt the color was a little dark and wanted it soften. I haven’t done a simple, one color glaze in a long time, so that part was fun! These circles, however, not so fun. Because I used 3 colors, a coppery bronze, metallic silver and a deep burgundy… it took me forever. I had to put 3 coats on of each color to get the depth and coverage I needed. A true labor of love.

My little client came home from school with a migraine today and went right into another room to sleep it off, so unfortunately I did not get a chance to talk with her today. 🙁 Yikes, migraines at 11, how sad. I’ll have to email her and will look forward to seeing her when I return in a few weeks.
