See You In September

Remember that song by "The Happenings"? September is always an energizing month for me. Although it does unofficially mark the end of Summer, particularly here in New England where our nights and mornings are already cool, and we are hanging onto every last warm day; it’s a time to get out of vacation mode and into work mode.

I’m energized to get back in my studio and create some new sample boards. I’m also looking forward to once again teaching some afterschool science programs. I love that I am able to devout quality time to both of my passions. At first, I thought I might want to hang up my apron and brushes for a labcoat and test tubes, but have found I am able to be more selective with painting commissions, allowing me time to teach a few late afternoon science classes during the week. Over the Summer, I was fortunate to be able to pilot my self-designed art/science program for elementary aged children, which proved to be a lot of fun.

Even though I have been absent from here for almost one year, I continue to receive private emails from PainterGirl readers, requesting additional information about finishes I have featured over the years. This prompted me to rethink my long absence on here and to make some time each week to share some new projects with you. Please keep in mind, this is not meant to be a DIY blog for decorative painting. This is my 18th year in business and my clients hire me because of my experience. I know I often show many of the steps of a job I am doing, but it is not meant as a tutorial. It’s a quick and partial overview of what goes on behind the scenes vs. showing just a finished room or project. I’d like to think you will seek out an experienced decorative painter in your area if you do not have a good understanding of how to execute these finishes. On the other hand, some finishes are fairly easy to grasp, so I do encourage you to experiment in your own home, and of course, feel free to ask me any questions.

This week I will post some accent walls recently completed, using allover stencil designs. Here is a preview of posts to come this week.
