I took a few pics of myself, while working on the Jungle Mural, to shame myself into buying some new painting clothes. Here I am taking a pic of myself, looking into a mirror in the Jungle Room. See how pathetic I look?! I no longer have any overall shorts, so I’ve cut off a pair of overalls to make some shorts. It’s finally warm here, so working in long pants is just too hot… even with the a/c. Whenever I work with other decorative painters, they always look much more pulled together than me. Not many I work with are fans of the bib overalls, but this style really is my fav for painting. I like the fact that they are loose and comfortable.
A common problem with ALL of my overalls at the moment is the fact that the buckles are beyond repair. Both of these straps are held up with giant safety pins.
I believe these are my best pair/cleanest pair of overalls. Just sad.
Now I’ve written about the quest for some more attractive painting attire before and had done some good research into where/who has something decent, but must confess, never followed through. After all, I’d much rather buy myself some fun clothes to wear when I’m NOT painting, vs. putting money into clothes that I will surely trash the first day out.
But… I’ve been disgusted by my shabby work appearance lately and that is not a good way to start off the day. After all, I do spend a good 8-10 hours/day in painting attire, so I need to shape up and sport something a little more creative, fun, and not held together with safety pins!
So… I followed my own advice and ordered myself 2 pairs of these
coveralls from Rosie’s. One in pink and one in khaki. I also ordered one of their cool bandannas. I’m hoping they fit, are not too small or too big. I love the fact that these zip off and convert into shorts, plus come with removable knee pads. When they arrive, I’m going to customize them a bit with some stenciling (of course!) and I thing I will either embroider or stencil my company logo somewhere. I’m leaning toward embroidering the logo, just to set it apart from the stenciling. Could a lowly PainterGirl actually be stylin’???!!! Stay tuned for their arrival and transformation.

Nope, I prefer your original look 🙂 You look fab! No sense spending good money on new duds, you will just paint those up as well, in time… I do hate how the buckles get trashed, though, on overalls – did you know you can find those replacements relatively easy?
Niels Windfeld Lund
Hi Painter girl, I completely agree with Patty, your overalls are beautiful in their own way, please join our overalls community with some of your fellow sisters like Laury for instance, see http://soardreamfrance.typepad.com/my_weblog/2009/06/pearls-and-overalls.html and many more ! overalls are just getting nicer and nicer every day you use them ! and we are preparing an international overalls day November 20th ! and your photos proves you love your overall painted overalls and the buckles not in place etc. have a nice overalls weekend, all the best niels bibprofessor

Thanks for your support and comments, girls! I did order and receive my 2 new pair, which I will blog about more in a later post. I did not and will not toss all my fav paint splattered/safety pinned overalls though. I had completely forgot that you can buy replacement buckles, so thanks Patty, that’s what I’ll do, so I can stop getting stuck w/safety pins that open! I did need a few extra pair to add to my collection, so will customize these 2 new prs and I’m sure they will be paint splattered in no time. 🙂 I’m in for Nov 20th Niels!

Hi Carol, Are you ready for Overalls day tomorrow ?
Carol
Oh Niels, thanks for the reminder! I will do a post on my blog for tomorrow about this. Btw, I hate the new overalls I bought. They are bulky, do not fit well and the length shrunk a lot when I washed them. I’m still in my old, comfy, paint splattered ones!

Hi Carol-saw you stopped in over at my blog and wanted to say hello and welcome you into the overalls fray. I was oozing over your new overalls when you first described them and thought I might order a pair while I was in the states, but then I heard the rest of the story! Your suspenders look just like mine! Hope you’ll stay in touch and today’s the day (at least it is in france right now) so Happy International Overalls Day-Laury
Carol
Laury I stopped by your blog last night and again this morning, but cannot seem to get to the actual blogging page. I can only access the Comment page and then cannot post a comment. I will try again later. Maybe something is going on w/TypePad. Thanx for stopping by! Happy International Overalls Day!
