My Ugly Hands

Ugly 11 Today I am revealing to all of you, my very ugly hands. They look like the hands of a 100 year old woman. They are my worst feature, I believe. I use them not only to hold my tools, but as a tool. I know, I know… I should take much better care of them. Wear protective gloves more often, use a lot more moisturizer, use tools as an extension of my hands vs. using my hands as the tool first. Get more than the occasional manicure. Well, I’d really have to rethink that last one. When I’m not painting during the week for a living, I’m usually doing some home repair project or digging in my garden, so a professional manicure seems like a waste of my time and money.

Ugly hand1 Oh my… here’s a particularly ugly angle! I took this when I came home from work today and tried to wash off what I thought was a big, dark smudge ….

Ugly hand 2 only to discover it was a huge bruise! It doesn’t hurt at all, but it sure doesn’t add to the beauty, especially since this hand was already sporting some injuries from sanding my front porch over the weekend. 🙁

I just applied a strong moisturizer to my bony, veiny, bruised, sad looking hands and vow to be kinder to them.

OK, here’s the thing. I love hands since I think they show the great life someone has lived. I don’t think your hands are ugly *at all*. BTW, so sorry about that bruise — now THAT does indicate you need to let them relax a bit. Not that *I* do — I usually find bruises that I don’t know about all over my legs. Here’s to the spoils of war! 😉

Oh, I’ve got you beat on this one-not that I’m feeling particularly good about it! My hands are WAYYYYY older looking and uglier!

Melanie, I’ve seen your hands, too. They are NOT how you describe them. I’m just gonna shake my head at the both of you!

Carol, Carol, I never even noticed your hands. I see your beautiful smile and listen to your laughter, and think what a good day I’m having working with you.

How Funny, I have been a faux/decorative artist for at least 15 years and look at my hands in the same way you do. Before that I was a commercial fisherman and broker and that was just as bad on my hands. Believe me my hands are way worse than yours. I think your hands are beautiful!
At 50 years old I now embrace the wear and tear on my hands as part of my wonderful character that makes me what I am. Really! Just be happy you are not this person.
