One of the reasons I really like this stencil design is because it can take on a whole new look with just a few embellishments.
I’m adding some metallic gold detailing with an angle brush.
Next, I’m going around with this little, round, foam tool and putting a dot of the same gold metallic paint in the center of each opening.
FYI, this gold paint, DecoArt True Gold, is great for stenciling and adding details.
The gold is a nice shade and it is very opaque, so usually one layer will do it. Unfortunately, it only comes in these small 2 oz. bottles. I called DecoArt to inquire about larger sizes, but they said this was it. I bought 30, 2 oz. bottles a while ago, when it was on sale.
Lastly, the pièce de résistance… Swarovski gems! I’m alternating two colors, a green and a topaz… mostly because I could not get the quantity I needed in only one color. If I calculated correctly, I’ll be applying a little over 500 gems to this pattern. I’m getting pretty quick at the gem application and find it almost therapeutic to do! Here’s a step by step:
I apply a dab of gem tac glue with a q-tip.
I find it goes much quicker if I have a little tray set up.
Remember the Gem Picker I showed you before?
It really speeds up the process when you have a lot of gems to apply.
Using the Gem Picker, I simply put the gem on the dot of glue…
I’m getting discouraged about the progress of my eye, so am stepping up the number of times I apply a compress during the day. 🙁
